Connected

Marcus had this remarkable way of connecting with people and connecting people to other people. It’s often mentioned that Marcus lived in the moment and that was so, so true. When he asked you how you were doing…he meant it…he really, really wanted to know and if possible, help you with whatever you needed help with. If he could not help, he would find someone who could. The man pictured with Marcus is my wife’s fantastic uncle, Neil Bassetti. Every January we would kick off our annual trip to The Rocks Ranch in Monterey County by stopping at Uncle Neil’s for local Swiss sausage and wine. Marcus and Neil connected from the first minute they met and even though they would only see each other once a year it was as if they were long lost friends…kindred spirits with larger-than-life personalities and a quality of selflessness beyond measure. I will miss him terribly and will always keep him in mind when I ask someone how they are doing.
